Giving
Friends of Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy,
Across the world today, people are joining the global generosity movement of Giving Tuesday and supporting organizations in their communities to impact positive change and transform lives. As you contemplate where to give this Giving Tuesday, we urge you to consider Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy. Your contribution will help us ensure we achieve our mission to provide a rigorous, culturally relevant education to students in Asheville that are negatively affected by Asheville’s gap in educational opportunity.
We firmly believe in the innate brilliance and unlimited potential of every child. At Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy, we don’t view our future black and brown students as “at-risk,” but “at-promise.” We know our students are FULL of promise, and Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy will take full responsibility for helping each student reach that full potential, regardless of socioeconomic status or race. Our school culture will be rigorous, culturally relevant, celebrate diversity and student growth, and will have the highest of expectations for every child, empowering each one with a deep love of learning, academic confidence and motivation, and thirst for knowledge that will help transcend any barrier to success.
As many of you know, we will open our doors in August of 2021 with 120 students in grades K-2 and will increase one grade level a year until serving K-8. We will offer full transportation services, breakfast, and lunch to all students who need it. We will compensate our teachers' hard work with high, professional salaries, generous benefits packages, and performance-based bonuses. We will utilize the very best research-based curriculum, resources, and teacher training. But, in order to make our ambitious vision a reality, we need support from community members like you. A few of our current needs are:
· $55,000 School Counselor Salary / $15,000 Benefits
The mental health of our students is a top priority. These are stressful times, and many of our students will enter P.E.A.K. Academy having experienced stress and trauma. We would like to begin the hiring process for a full-time School Counselor in January, but do not have funding in our baseline budget for this position. Funding our professional Counselor would help ensure students get the mental health services they need to thrive every day and develop the life skills to ensure their full potential in life.
· $12,000 in Uniform Vouchers ($100 per family)
Research has proven that wearing uniforms minimizes distractions, reduces bullying, and overall improves student behavior and academic outcomes. Our school lottery is up and running with 40+ children already enrolled. APA would like to ensure interested families that this voucher will be available now, so the cost of uniforms is not a barrier to any family wishing to enroll.
Opening a new school, particularly one that is seeking to close the opportunity gap, is a formidable task, and we could not do it without the generous support of our local community. Please visit www.ashevillepeakacademy.org/giving to donate, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. We thank you for considering giving to Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy, and look forward to making you one of our partners to help us provide our students the education they need to ensure a promising future!
